GENEALOGY OF STRETCH: THE BEGINING.

A long History of active footwear featuring a stretchable material might have started around 1983….. right up to …. an ongoing story.

After the genealogy of speed (unfortunately removed from the internet, not from my archive) and the Genealogy of Free, currently accessible and both made by the Nike brand initiative, I propose here to decline an other opus: the genealogy of Stretch.

Enjoy the 80's and the 90's then we'll roll for the first decade and later on the second decade of the new century.  In that particular case, watching the gone past tells us about the past future.

The picture below staring German player M. Ballack was designed and created as the file says the 11/21/07 4:51 PM. This slide is extracted from a design exploration phase which consisted to find venting solutions. Same sport, different Brands, different solutions but close perception.

THE CYCLE OF COLOR BLOCKING.

23 years are standing between the pictures below, taken in 1991 in the scope of the Spanish olympic games collector cards,  and the above unveiled spanish basketball uniform for the up coming world champ in Spain. 

The materials are different as the processes. Even if we shift from a past flat lock stitched assembly pieces of lycra to a sublimated mesh side panel, its funny to see how these two uniforms, look the same. Nike in this case, shows us a style consistency across history.

TO MY READERS.

At the beginning, in 1983 I was a young boy found of sports and footwear. 

I've never been able to explain why I started to collect pictures, catalogues and newspaper articles from that year on. 

All I know is this archive made over the years became bigger and full of stories, memories, culture, passion which helped me year after year to reach the goal of becoming a sporting goods designer, specialized in footwear.

Its funny to see how past and future share a continuous link through the consistency of brands heritage.

I realized years ago that such an archive cannot live in hard drive only.

This blog is dedicated to share with you a tiny part of this archive and celebrate Fantastic brands, alive or long gone, geniuses behind the trademarks, the emotional products, the technologies, the stories, and the charismatic athletes or their teams.

I want it to be filled with pictures, concise analyze or analogies.

I want it to be an addition of what can be already found on the net.

There will always be a reason to post something, following my own feelings, a demand or a fact.

 It may be precise sometimes, sometimes not.

Feel free to ask, react, and correct me when I am wrong.

There is no scope of stealing or disclosing intellectual property of whoever or whatever, just a motivation to look forward and in the back mirror with insights my profession and mentors brought to me over the years.
